This exercise is an aid to learning the division tables.

A division operation is deduced from the corresponding multiplication operation. For example :

So, to find the result of a division, you need to look it up in the multiplication table of the divisor. For example :

24 : 4 = ?

In this case, the division is by 4. I search the multiplication table for 4 to find the row with the result 24. I find :

4 x 5 = 20
4 x 6 = 24
4 x 7 = 28

I deduce :

24 : 4 = 6

Remember also the following 3 rules :

• Dividing 0 by any number always gives 0.
• Dividing a number by itself always gives 1.
• Dividing a number by 1 always gives that number.
